  1. What age can my child start Cub Scouts?
    Children can join Cub Scouts starting in Kindergarten (as a Lion) up until 5th grade.
  2. What activities do Cub Scouts participate in?
    Cub Scouts participate in a variety of activities including camping, hiking, community service projects, and learning practical skills through badge work.
  3. How often are meetings held?
    Typically, Pack meetings are held once a month, with smaller Den meetings also happening monthly or more frequently.
  4. What is the cost of joining Cub Scouts?
    For the 2024-2025 school year, Pack 4 total annual dues per youth are $225, inclusive of local and national level dues. Due waivers are available upon request. Financial concerns should not be a barrier to engaging in Scouting.
  5. Do parents need to stay at meetings and events?
    Parental involvement varies by age group. For younger scouts, parents are usually required to stay. As scouts get older, parental involvement may shift to a supportive role. We are a parent-driven organization and parent volunteers are most welcome! Parents tend to find Scouting to be a highly rewarding experience.
  6. What is the uniform and where can I buy it?
    Cub Scouts wear a uniform specific to their rank (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, or Webelos). Uniforms can be purchased online or at the San Diego Scout Shop.
  7. How can parents get involved?
    Parental involvement is encouraged! Parents can volunteer as leaders, help organize events, or assist with various activities. Parents tend to find Scouting to be a highly rewarding experience.
  8. What values does Cub Scouting teach?
    Cub Scouting teaches values outlined in the Scout Oath and Law, such as honesty, respect, and helpfulness. It also promotes physical fitness, citizenship, and leadership.

    Scouts are expected to participate in meetings and activities, complete tasks for rank advancement, and follow the principles of the Scout Oath and Law.
  10. What is the time commitment for Cub Scouts?
    Time commitment can vary, but typically includes regular Den and Pack meetings, as well as occasional special activities and events. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it! Scouting provides unique opportunities for parents, youth, and entire families.
