Memorial Day Flag Placement Service Opportunity

May 25 @ 7:30 am 9:30 am

Be part of Pack 4 at our annual Memorial Day flag planting event. This is an opportunity for our Scouts to honor our Nation’s veterans who lay interred in this cemetery and learn about the importance of Memorial Day.

Uniform Requirements: Full Class A uniform, including slide, hat, pants, and tucked in shirt.

RSVP: Notify your den leader by May 15, 2024, to confirm your attendance.

Parking and Carpooling: allow extra time for parking, especially if you plan to arrive later than 7:30 AM. We strongly encourage carpooling to reduce traffic congestion and limited parking space.

Volunteer Opportunity: Do you love coffee in the morning? Then you are perfect to volunteer to set up and manage a coffee stand to raise money for our pack. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact your den leader or the pack committee. Please notify Cubmaster Casey if you are able to step up and support Pack 4.

About Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery: The Fort Rosecrans Memorial Day celebration is one of San Diego’s largest and most celebrated memorials dedicated to our fighting men and women. The Fort Rosecrans Memorial Day Committee, comprised of War Veterans Organizations, their Auxiliaries, and patriotic groups, has conducted the Memorial Services at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego for over 100 years.

Flag Placement Etiquette:

  • Flags should be placed uniformly, approximately one foot in front of and centered on the grave marker or headstone.
  • Always follow flag etiquette; never lay flags on the ground, and only use flags in excellent condition.
  • After placing the flag, pause to say the veteran’s name and thank them for their service.
